Address (Community Area, Ward) Agenda Description Draft Presentation

1200 S. Jean Baptiste Point du Sable Lake Shore Drive - Shedd Aquarium
(Near South Side, 4th Ward)

The series of proposed improvements seek to improve function, accessibility, and public space while preserving significant characteristics of the institution. A circular trellis will define an arrival location to complement the commissioned fountain, Man with Fish, while anchoring an entry and ticket pavilion. Renovations will be compliant with the Secretary of Interior's Standards to maintain the opportunity to secure future State funding. A new landscaping plan will provide programming for visitors to play, rest and engage in new sustainable gardens. The North Terrace will be replaced with stone salvaged from the existing building and widened by 10’. Additional work to the terrace will include the construction of a basement to house life support equipment required for the improved large animal habitats. A new pavilion on the Lakeside Terrace will include a roof deck at the same level as the North Terrace.

170 N. Green St.
(Near West Side, 27th Ward)

170 Green is a mixed-use project proposing hotel, residential and office programs that compliments the diverse nature of the surrounding Fulton Market neighborhood. The mix of uses allows the project to be active throughout the day and evening. The residential building mass is offset from adjacent towers, preserving access to daylight for both projects. The hotel building mass is sited to the south, creating a backdrop for the historic district while aligning with the south facade of neighboring buildings. The office building mass references to the scale of surrounding structures. The ground floor of the project extends the open space of the neighboring development, providing an additional 13,000 square feet of open air plaza that cuts the site from east to west. This gesture orients pedestrian activity from the Morgan Stop through to Halsted Street.
