Roosevelt/Racine TIF

Designation: 1998    Expiration: 2034

Located on the Near West Side, the 212-acre Roosevelt/Racine TIF includes one of the oldest and largest concentrations of public housing structures in Chicago, the ABLA Homes. At the time of the TIF's designation, ABLA consisted of 3,400 partially occupied dwelling units built in five sub-areas from the late 1930s through the mid-1960s. The TIF's goal is the redevelopment of the area as a functional, clean and attractive mixed-use and mixed-income residential neighborhood with convenient commercial service enterprises. Priorities include infrastructure upgrades, the rehabilitation of existing structures, the creation of new residential units, new public housing structures, and new business facilities. Additional goals include improved parks and playgrounds, new connections with the city's street grid, and beautification projects.
