The Office of Mayor Rahm Emanuel today announced that it would launch a new sustainability webpage and Twitter account, so Chicagoans can keep up with news about Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s environmental policies, sustainable community projects, green business initiatives, and find ways to get involved to in the greening of our city.

“Promoting sustainability throughout the city is a key focus of my administration, and is integral to the quality of life we are working to develop for all Chicagoans,” said Mayor Emanuel. “I want Chicago to be the greenest city in the world, and I am committed to fostering opportunities for Chicagoans to make sustainability a part of their lives and their experience in the city.”

The Mayor’s office sustainability Twitter account is @SustainChicago, and will publicize the City’s environmental events and provide additional updates on Chicago’s longstanding sustainability plans, such as its commitment to curbing greenhouse gas emissions. People interested in Chicago’s sustainability efforts should also visit the new webpage at http://www.cityofchicago.org/sustainability, which provides a database of city resources to get involved and save money and energy by following sustainability guidelines.

“There is huge interest among Chicagoans to find opportunities to embed sustainability in their daily lives and for businesses to embrace sustainability in all fashions,” said Karen Weigert, chief sustainability officer for the City of Chicago. “At home, at work, on our streets and in our parks, we’d like to create a city that is full of opportunities to pursue an enjoyable life while respecting the environment.”

The webpage and twitter feed are both live as of today. As always, Chicago residents can also call 311 for information on recycling, tree planting, and the Clean and Green Program.
