The City of Chicago proudly celebrates the conclusion of another tremendously successful Lollapalooza Music Festival, which took place in Grant Park over the weekend. Now in its ninth year, the three-day Festival featured music, food, art and showcased over 130 bands on eight stages, including Mumford & Sons, Imagine Dragons, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix and The Cure.

"Chicago is a great music city and I'm thrilled that Lollapalooza was again such a positive event for the city, attracting high-caliber musical artists and fans from all over," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "Chicago is perfectly suited to host this world-class music festival that is framed by the beautiful backdrop of our skyline."

The sold-out concert hosted 100,000 fans each day, and attracted thousands more to other festival-related activities, including 45 official after-parties.

According to Festival organizers, Lollapalooza infused $120 million into the local economy in 2012 (2013 figures are not yet available).  As a premier music festival that is held exclusively in Chicago, the event also serves as tourist attraction. This year, 70 percent of event attendees resided outside of Chicago, with 3 percent of all ticketholders residing in other countries.

The City is now in its second year of a 10-year agreement with event organizers to host Lollapalooza through 2021.

The City's public safety agencies worked closely with event organizers to ensure a safe and secure event for attendees and residents. According to preliminary reports, there were minimal arrests and medical transports over the three days.

Traffic Impact and On-going Street Closures:

Attendees took advantage of several public transportation options to get to the event,  including the CTA, Metra and the new Divvy bike sharing program. As a result, the area adjacent to Grant Park experienced minimal traffic impact and delays during the event.

Street Closure Information:

• Columbus Drive from Monroe to Roosevelt is expected to re-open to vehicular traffic by Monday at 4:00 p.m.

The following closures will remain in place while the festival stages and tents are disassembled:

•  Balbo from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive will be closed through Thursday, August 8 at 4:00 p.m.

•  Jackson from Columbus to Lake Shore Drive will be closed through Wednesday, August 7 at 4:00 p.m.

•  Balbo from Michigan Ave to Columbus will be closed through Wednesday, August 7 at 4:00 p.m.

•  Congress Parkway from Michigan to Columbus will be closed through Wednesday, August 7 at 4:00 p.m.   

•  Jackson from Michigan Avenue to Columbus will be closed through Wednesday, August 7 at 4:00 p.m.
