Tree Insects; Pests

BE ON THE ALERT FOR INVASIVE SPECIES AND EXOTIC PESTS!

There are many native insects and diseases that affect our city trees. However, native trees are most vulnerable to exotic insects and diseases because there are no known natural defenses. Presently, the City of Chicago is actively working to combat two exotic insect pests --the Gypsy moth and the Emerald Ash borer. Additionally, although declared eradicated on April 17th 2008, the City of Chicago also continues to monitor for a major exotic insect pest – the Asian Long Horned beetle.

To report Emerald Ash borer or Asian Long Horned beetle call the Beetle Hotline: 312.74BEETL or 312.742.3385.

For information about tree related insect or disease problems you may contact a City Forester at: 312.746.5254.
