Amendments to Vacant Building Registration Ordinance Effective July 2, 2018

NOTICE OF EFFECTIVE DATE OF VACANT BUILDING REGISTRATION AMENDMENTS
On September 6, 2017, the City Council amended the vacant building registration provisions of the Code to streamline the registration fee structure for both owner and mortgagee-initiated registrations and expand the mortgagee registration requirement to include unregistered vacant non-residential buildings.
The initial registration fee for registration by the building owner is $300 for a period of six months and $300 for each subsequent six-month registration renewal. If the building is cited for non-compliance prior to registration, the initial registration fee is $600.
The initial registration fee for registration by the building mortgagee (if the building owner has failed to register as required) is $700 for a period of six months and $300 for each subsequent six-month registration renewal.
Pursuant to Section 7 of Ordinance SO2017-3889 as amended by O2018-974, notice is hereby given by the posting of this notice on the Chicago Department of Buildings public website that these changes will take effect Monday, July 2, 2018.
