Prepare Yourself for the ProjectDox Upgrade!

June 17, 2025

The Department of Buildings is pleased to announce that significant upgrades to our ProjectDox system for building permit applications are underway! To implement the upgrade, starting on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., the following features will be unavailable to the public:

  • ProjectDox for Plan-Based Building Permits, Fire Alarm System Permits, and Stormwater Management Plan Approvals
  • The Permit Portal for Plan-Based Permit Applications
  • The Permit Portal for Sign Permit Applications
  • The Portal for renewing electrical, mason, and plumbing trade licenses.

Public access to these systems will resume by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, June 23. We will send an alert when the upgrade is complete.

To learn more about the updated ProjectDox features and requirements, please review the new E-Plan User Guide at Chicago.gov/eplan.

For those with existing applications, your materials will migrate automatically to the new system as part of the upgrade. You don't need to take any preparatory steps.

Electrical, masonry, and plumbing trade licenses expiring between the offline dates, June 18 and 23, 2025, will receive an extension to June 24, 2025.
