Mona Noriega

Mona Noriega has over 30 years of experience committed to social change on behalf of diverse community groups. Appointed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel in 2011, and under his leadership, Noriega helped expand civil rights protections by adding credit history, criminal history, and military status as protected categories under the City of Chicago's anti-discrimination ordinances and expanded protections for gender non-conforming individuals when accessing public spaces that are private in nature.  Noriega helped establish the Midwest Regional Office of Lambda Legal and also worked as the Regional Director. Noriega organized the 2014 and 2017 Hate Crime Summit hosted at the University of Illinois at Chicago and annually serves as an Honorary Co-Chair of Chicago Build the Peace Committee.  Most recently Noriega was awarded Equality Illinois' 2017 Illinois Freedom Award, presented the keynote address at the 2017 International MANEO Conference in Berlin, Germany, and in 2016  was recognized by Negocios Now Who’s Who in Hispanic Chicago.  She earned an MBA and an MPA from the University of Illinois at Chicago and her BA from Northeastern Illinois University.
