Southeast corner of South Wells Street and 15th Street
(Near South Side, 25th Ward)

The Discovery Partners Institute, a University of Illinois System-led research and innovation center, will occupy a 1-acre site along the South Branch in The 78. With more than 200,000 square feet of space, the academic and research center will house classrooms, meeting and event spaces and labs and offices for research, development and startups. Project design is underway and groundbreaking is anticipated in 2024. With its multi-directional form, the innovation center is intended to engage communities on all sides — toward the nearby riverfront, and toward the future phases of the larger Innovation District at The 78. Multiple public infrastructure improvements, including the construction of the Wells-Wentworth Connector, Metra track realignment and a new Red Line subway station at 15th Street, will facilitate the redevelopment.  Draft Presentation
