Greater Southwest Industrial (East) TIF

Designation: 1999    Expiration: 2035

Encompassing portions of the Chicago Lawn, West Englewood, Ashburn and Auburn-Gresham communities, the 320-acre Greater Southwest Industrial (East) TIF is intended to encourage land uses that strengthen the function and appeal of the area for industrial, commercial, institutional and residential uses. Specific goals include the assembly of sites of sufficient size and shape for new construction, assistance for rehabilitation projects, and upgrades to area infrastructure. Targeted projects include the redevelopment of an abandoned drive-in theater on Columbus Avenue, the creation of new open space near Bell and 72nd streets, and the redevelopment of abandoned railroad right-of-ways and alleys where appropriate. Additional priorities include improvements to local educational institutions and public works.
