The Learning Lab is a place to engage and experiment with aspects of all DCASE cultural programming. Watch archival footage of guests at past DCASE events on a vintage TV set, hear the sounds of upcoming DCASE music festivals, try your hand at mural making like Keith Haring on our chalk wall, touch pieces of the building to get a feel of the sumptuous materials used to create this golden age building and more!

Project Osmosis guides young designers through the process of learning about and creating design. Drop in to meet some of the young designers who began their work this summer as Design Pioneers as they explore issues raised in the African American Design Exhibition.

Friday, February 1, 12-2pm

What do the recycling symbol and the bicycle have in common? Chicago companies played a critical role in the development of both. Young artists, join us in creating art using upcycled bicycle tires donated by Blackstone Bicycle Works at Experimental Station in Woodlawn. Bring your work home, or leave it at CCC for display in the Learning Lab.

Arts of Life presents Van Go Go. This Arts of Life North Shore band is a growing collaborative of musicians with and without developmental disabilities across the greater Chicago area. Join us as they entertain and engage with visitors of all ages.

Saturday, March 23, 1-3pm

Get creative with a hands-on demonstration and workshop in the Learning Lab building a collaborative project with others. Arts of Life artist will lead a love rope fiber demo creating a collaborative sculpture open for participants of all ages. In addition, we'll have coloring supplies available to design your own baby doll figure inspired by Arts of Life founding artist Veronica Cuculich.

Dreaming about warmer days of spring just around the corner? Design your own imaginary garden with experts from Lurie Garden in Millennium Park. Bring your passion and creative ideas to envision your own oasis!

Saturday, March 16, 1-3pm

Artists Daniel Hojnacki, Karolis Usonis, and Krista Wortendyke each use photographic archives in their artistic practice. As seen in the exhibition Furtive in the Michigan Avenue Galleries, reclaimed and re-contextualized photographs create new meaning or underline our shifting perceptions about photography. Artists and participants will work with photographic archives, scan images on a flatbed scanner, and make alterations to the original images to create new images in a contemporary context.

Chicago Cultural Alliance and the National Museum of Puerto Rican Art and Culture present artist Edra Soto. The artist will engage visitors in an activity which references architectural patterns and viewfinders. These elements figure prominently in her work on view in the exhibition entitled, Forgetten Forms on view in the Michigan Avenue Galleries.

Spring is in the air and so are the kites. Make your own ready to fly kite with free kits provided. Get ready for the ever popular Kids & Kites Festival on May 4th at Cricket Hill in Lincoln Park.
