Smart Streets

Smart Streets

  • Smart Streets uses cameras mounted on City vehicles, and soon also CTA buses, to achieve the following goals:
    • Encourage safe driver behavior.
    • Improve parking compliance to reduce crashes and pedestrian and cyclist fatalities.
    • Increase transit efficiency.
  • Smart Streets helps to ensure that Chicago’s growing network of bike and bus lanes are working to their full potential.
  • While the initial launch of Smart Streets included bus and bike lane violations, CTA buses will also begin enforcing parking in bus stops in the summer of 2025.
  • Parking violations for unpaid parking meters and commercial loading zones will be implemented in the fall of 2025.
  • The City began issuing Smart Streets violations in December 2024. This pilot is currently set to expire in December 2026.

The Pilot Area is within the boundaries of Lake Michigan to Ashland Avenue and from North Avenue to Roosevelt Road.
