The City of Chicago’s liquor license application process is designed to ensure that liquor licenses are issued only to persons who meet the eligibility requirements of the Chicago Municipal Code and the Illinois Liquor Control Act. A criminal background check is required for any person with 5% or more ownership in the business, corporate officers, site managers and/or persons loaning or giving 10% or more interest.
