Updated Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance Information
On December 13, 2023 the Chicago City Council passed an amendment to the Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave Ordinance (the “Ordinance”). The Ordinance guarantees up to five days of paid time off and five days of paid sick leave for all of Chicago’s workers. The amendment delays the implementation of the ordinance until July 1, 2024.

BACP is reviewing all of the public comments that were submitted. Rules will be finalized in April of 2024.
Office of labor standards
The Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection Office of Labor Standards (OLS) oversees Chicago's landmark labor laws through engagement and enforcement.
OLS processes complaints, conducts investigations, mediates disputes, directs settlement proceedings, issues violations and if necessary, seeks licensure discipline against employers.

Public Notices
Chicago Labor Laws Public Notices, official informational posters, must be displayed in a conspicuous place at the place of employment and provided with each Covered Employee’s first paycheck. Retaliation for filing a complaint with Office of Labor Standards is prohibited.

The new Paid Leave and Paid Sick and Safe Leave ordinance will result in a change to the required Public Notices. You can view and download the proposed Notices. OLS will provide information as to when the new Notices must be posted in the near future.
