Emergency Heating Repair Program

Program Overview

The Emergency Heating Repair Program (EHRP) provides service grants to assist income eligible, owner-occupants of 1-to-4-unit properties with emergency heating system replacements or repairs during the winter season.

Starting on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022, qualified homeowners may request an application for assistance. Applications will be accepted through April 1, 2023 or until all funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.

How to Apply

Submit a service request through 311 or call the Department of Housing's (DOH) customer service line at 312.744.3653 to request an application.

Eligibility

Eligible properties must be located in Chicago, habitable, owner-occupied, and not at risk of foreclosure. The applicant's name must be listed on the deed to the property for a minimum of one year at the time of application. All applicants must be income qualified. Households earning 80% or less of the area median income (AMI) are eligible to participate in the program. The total gross income of all owners and other household members shall be included and many not exceed this limit. The gross income of all adults, 18 and older, who reside in the property, are included to determine income eligibility.

All utilities must be current and in working order. If the owner sells, transfers title, or no longer occupies the property within one year of receiving the service, the owner will be required to repay a prorated portion of the grant.
