Affordable Rental Housing Resource List

Affordable rental housing plays an important role in meeting the housing needs of low-income Chicagoans, and the Department of Housing maintains a list of existing affordable developments.

Area Median Income (AMI) Chart

A list of Area Median Incomes (AMIs) as required by certain federal, state and local laws, which place restrictions on the income of households assisted through various Department of Housing programs.

Chicago Renting Right

The City of Chicago, in partnership with tenant and landlord organizations, has formed the Renters' Rights campaign to educate Chicagoans about the legal responsibilities and rights of renters and property owners.

Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP)

ERAP assists households who are unable to pay rent due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Keep Chicago Renting Ordinance helps protect renters in foreclosed properties.

The Department of Housing maintains information and resources to help renters at risk of eviction and tenants that are facing a lockout by their landlord.

Know Your Rights: Fair Notice Ordinance

The Fair Notice Ordinance creates new rights and responsibilities for tenants and landlords to give Chicago renters more stability in their homes.

Know Your Rights: Residential Tenant Lockout

A “lockout” has occurred any time a landlord does or threatens to take one of several actions with regard to a residential tenant’s home or apartment.

Technical Assistance Citywide (TACIT)

These agencies provide training and technical assistance, regarding Fair Housing compliance, property management, rental issues and Co-op/Condo options, to non-profits in low-moderate income areas.

Technical Assistance Community (TACOM)

Technical Assistance-Community (TACOM, formerly known as Housing Resource Center or HRC) agencies provide housing-related information, problem solving, community events, workshops and housing fairs to assist low- and moderate-income homeowners.
