The City of Chicago Emergency Rental Assistance Program application period closed on Saturday, Dec. 18.

If you are worried about remaining in your home because you have been unable to pay rent: 

  1. Don't Self-Evict - If you get an eviction notice, know that only the Sheriff can carry out an eviction. It is illegal for your landlord to try to remove you from your home. 
  2. Get Legal Help - Get free legal help at Rentervention.com or by calling 312.347.7600. More information is available below. 
  3. Get Financial Help – See below for options to apply for up to 15 months of rental assistance. 

DOH is continuing to process and approve rental assistance applications submitted last year, and is prioritizing the most vulnerable applicants to ERAP, based on income. You can check the status of your online application by clicking here or calling 312.698.0202.

La moratoria de desalojos termina el 3 de octubre, 2021, pero los inquilinos en Chicago todavía tienen opciones.

Find the Status of Your Application

If you are a landlord or tenant and applied to receive rental assistance during the open application period that ended in June, you can check the status of your application by clicking here or calling 312.698.0202

A list of status descriptions and their explanations are listed below: 

  • Waiting for match: application not matched with landlord 
  • Ready for case management review: application is matched & assigned to a case manager  
  • In case manager review: case being reviewed by case manager  
  • Ready for supervisor review: case referred to supervisor for determination  
  • In supervisor review: case being reviewed for approval  
  • Need more documentation: more information needed - please follow up with your case worker  
  • Approved: application approved  
  • Closed/submitted for payment: application is approved for funding and check is in the mail  
  • Rejected: case has been denied for various reasons
